At this point, I think I would have liked being a gal in the Gad, Rueben or Manasseh tribes. When I think of the conquests of Canaan, I like to forget that all those women, children and animals were following them around. I would have much rather waved at that crowd as they crossed the river and started setting up my own sheep pen.
I wonder how life was like for all them, during the time it took to settle the land. I’m sure they wondered if the men would ever come back. Or maybe, another nation would come through and plunder these cities of women and children?
In any case, faith would have been necessary: Faith to cross into the land and trust in the LORD’s victory. Faith for protection and the eventual return of fathers, uncles and brothers.
We all find ourselves in different circumstances. Even Carly and I are in totally different seasons of life and locale. But every circumstance calls for faith.
What is the faith you need for your circumstance? The LORD is with us all. One of my favorite lines from a hymn is from “I Sing The Mighty Power Of God”, it goes like this:
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care;
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God, art present there
He’s with you, and He can handle your unique place, season and circumstance. How will that truth affect the way you face your day?
