In speaking of false prophets, “they have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.” (15)
The LORD spoke to Balaam, but he was bent on going where the money was. This might have seemed lucrative at the time, but it never stood a chance to be profitable.
The lure of money is a real temptation to even those in ministry. Pastors are regularly faced with opportunities to either follow the Word of the LORD or money. Money has a weird way of appearing to be the wise and safe choice, but it is never to be confused as such.
Is there something going on in your life right now that makes you feel caught between these choices? When it comes to leaders you’re following, do you observe them making choices based on financial gain or obedience to the LORD? Ask the LORD to help you be discerning in this area.
