“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” 30:19-20
Oh, that we would choose life.
Lately, I’ve been trying to break down difficult or overwhelming tasks in very small increments. Whether it’s tackling a huge house project, approaching conflict resolution or living a healthier lifestyle, I’ve been approaching it one step at a time.
One room at a time. One conversation at a time. One meal at a time.
I felt encouraged by the verses above that this is obtainable in my walk with the Lord, too. I can choose life, one decision at a time.
Guarding my tongue intentionally, one sentence at a time. Responding in a godly manner, one action at a time. Exercising self-control, one choice at a time.
Choosing life doesn’t mean you have to completely burn your life down in one day and start over (although, there is a time and place for that too.) God wants to be in relationship with you and he wants you to live well.
Today is the first day of a new year and a great opportunity for a fresh start.
How will you choose life today?
