“We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born.” (26:18)
This, after the incredible list of things the LORD accomplished in 25, hit me as a strong reminder today: The LORD is the one who accomplishes eternal, worthwhile, things.
We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth. This has the potential to both bruise our pride and push us toward faith. He has to do it. The deliverance of the earth is on Him. Do I believe He will do it?
“O LORD, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; For You have worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.” (25:1)
The sermon at my church yesterday was from Habakkuk, but many applications are the same. The LORD is trustworthy and we can wait on Him for His answer if we have the patience to do it. He made some pretty crazy promises! He said He would topple the greatest world power at the time and He did! He doesn’t share our limitations. If He says He will do something, He will do it.
Do we have the faith and patience to wait for it? We better! It’s not like we can accomplish it without Him.
“Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.” (Psalms 127:1)
I’m excited about the things God has accomplished already. I have a million stories of His faithfulness. He’s always reminding me to rest, to trust Him for the heavy lifting.
What a mighty God we serve.
