“I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.” (63:2-4)
I fancy myself an interesting person, but by far the most interesting thing about me is: I have witnessed the LORD. I have seen Him, and can agree with David, His love is better than life. No matter what intriguing theologies come along, I cannot deny the goodness and power of God. I’ve experienced it, time and time again.
The Father is wise and merciful
Jesus is near and exalted
The Holy Spirit connects and confounds
Everything worthwhile in my life finds is source in a reaction to these experiences. He Word really does feel like a rush of water in a dry place. His discipline really does produce righteousness and peace. He really is a refuge, fortress, shelter in times of trouble.
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him.” (62:1)
He is dynamically and inseparably a part of me. I can’t leave Him out of a long conversation. I can’t question His presence. His perfect love casts out fear and I can’t be slowed by risks. His power moves me. I can’t take much credit for anything, since I am slow, stubborn, overly independent and sassy. He is the Good Shepherd. Indeed, I will praise Him as long as I live.
How have you seen Him?
