“Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.” (7:25)
Lately I have been stumbling over how to pray. My heart doesn’t always know what exactly I’m asking for.
As many of my refugee friends wait, painfully, for their relocation process, shuffled from housing to housing, interview to appointment, I don’t always know what to pray. However, in the past couple days, a few of us have been led by the Spirit to pray for specific things in Jesus’ name and it’s happening.
I heard one of our friends said, “I’m beginning to see how praying in Jesus’ name is powerful. It causes things to happen.” This is different from how he’s experienced prayer before. Muslims pray to God, general prayers of adoration, but everything happens by the luck of His whim.
We have a Great High Priest who helps us pray, and intercedes for us when all our soul can do is whisper “please”. As we listen to Him in prayer, sometimes we find Him filling our mouths with the words we couldn’t find. These are the prayers we can know He will surely answer.
He lives forever. Hallelujah!
Spend some time thinking about Jesus as your High Priest. Like I said, awhile back, God’s plot twist when agreeing to Israel’s plea for a go-between, was to eventually make that person Himself. Jesus approaches the Father for you. What will you ask Him? What will you listen for? Do you pray only for yourself or for others as well? Who can you intercede, together with Christ, for today?
